VIR karting experiences?
Hey everyone!
I just registered for a NASA karting enduro in May at VIR and am pretty stoked (first time karting/first time at VIR) lol But yea so I'm curious what you all think of these events?
Also, about how fast are these karts? Any particular useful items that you would recommend bringing? Watched portions of a few of your videos on youtube, but I'm curious on any comments/advice you all might have. Thanks!

That sounds fun. Link?
They're pretty quick, but they're speed and cornering ability varies widely due to their varying alignments and engine condition. We found while we were there that a few "ringer" karts are in the mix. #4 and #6 come to mind.

Lift weights for a few weeks before going , it will work on your arms and neck !!!! Karts top out about 30mph which is pretty quick for such a small course. Be ready to look over your shoulder constantly . Read up on good track manners.

Re: VIR karting experiences?
Thanks for the input!
I found out about the event recently and got in as the 11/12 team spot with a few friends, and unfortunately it's now full. However, it seems that NASA is putting on quite a few kart enduros this year at both VIR and Summit Point. Here's the event link for this one. https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1790
Anyways, thanks though, quick question though, those "ringer" karts, specifically 4 and 6, do you mean that those are ones to try to get or avoid?
And also, thanks for the advice on working out Mr. Hodges, as someone who almost never works out I shall definitely be doing so try prep for this.

Re: VIR karting experiences?
Those karts were the fast ones the last time but that changes from month to month depending on tire and engine wear.

Kart 4 is what I set the lap record in that still holds. Kart 2 was decently fast last weekend. Only .2 off the record

Check rhdwillis on YouTube, I have a video of me and Buckie doing an event in those karts. We had kart 4 with no brakes in the video.

Awesome! Must've felt awesome when that guy spun towards the end lol Did something get messed up after you hit the tire wall?tehmaxfactr wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqiMfGtL ... UOEwMpyCCg
So how do these carts handle at the limit? Pretty predictable? Over/understeer bias? Just wanna get all the info I can. Thanks!

Re: VIR karting experiences?
Yea it was very satisfying..... he probably weighed about 70 lbs so he killed me in the straights.....but i would get stuck behind him in the turns. don't try and make your fastest lap the first time out. The tires take a while to heat up. You can actually control the over/understeer with your body. if you are getting a bunch of understeer lean forward to the steering wheel and if you are getting a bunch of over steer lean back. You will be surprised at how much this helps. You can do that whole course without brakes if you set up the turns right.

Re: VIR karting experiences?
If running clockwise you need brakes just after topping the hill,, if counterclockwise then you need brakes at the hairpin,,, every where else you can pitch and catch.

Re: VIR karting experiences?
We drove kart 6 and were just over 2 seconds slower than the lap record... still got a lot to learn! on the other hand, if any of you all want to race at the next one at the end of the month, here's the link as there are currently 3 more team spots!
