College Autocross

Post by tehmaxfactr »

So there has been some hype building for the next College Challenge in Verona. I would like to see which team everyone thinks will win! Feel free to put in your 2 cents.

My predictions are based off what I know. Not to offend or hurt anyone's feeling if I miss someone. If there are any other clubs running I would love to add them in as well.

JMU- I don't really know much of who is the fastest people out of this club so I wouldnt be able to guess as to what they would run? Brad Fischer is the only person I really see from that club running consistently. I see the Lingenfelters placing pretty high in PAX if David runs his car in STS. Other than that I am not sure for this club, would love some more insight!!
Liberty- I see this group struggling for a third place finisher as we have 2 of them finishing in the top ten. Wampler tearing it up in the Mustang and Wilkerson with that nice STF PAX. I think if this group finds a solid third place finisher they will be very tough to beat!
CCVT- Now we know this club is going to be really hard to beat bringing the numbers that they bring to the events. They also tend to have some of the fastest people in the club. Holzer finishing in front of Wampler last weekend was pretty impressive. If Brock can find some tires for his CSP car I am sure he will have no problem taking the top spot for this club. As for there third place finisher, I see Kevin P. putting in a solid time. Once again this club will be very hard to beat based on the shear volume of participation that we see out of them.
VCCS- I see this group being the most consistent of all the clubs. We don't really have the super fast Brocks or Wamplers of the event but a few guys that consistently place in the top 15 PAX at each even. I see the top 3 people from this team, judging from previous events and based only on the people that I know are running, being Steffen Clark in the DSP Colt, Heath Maxey in the STX Mini, and myself Buckie Maxey SSM miata. Out of all the clubs listed they were the only club with all three finishers in the top 15 at last weekends Roanoke event.

As much as I would love to cast my vote for LU, gotta say that when the college autox comes around JMU has a really good showing. They have some very skilled drivers; however the past few years it seemed as though VT had a slightly weaker showing as well (I think there was a car show at VT that same weekend last year). Just a note Buckie, you got my last name wrong lol :P

Either way, VCCS will have a good chance, and with the strong presence of VT this year and a few more participants with Liberty, this has the makings of a really good race!

While for our team a 1st place finish this year is a little (well, maybe very) optimistic, I'd love to make it a close match for 2nd... :D

That Brad Fischer kid needs as much seat time as he can get - he sucks!

In all seriousness, the MM forum is buzzing with who's going to show up. I haven't seen many of them autoX, so I can't say who will be fast, but it won't be me.

My money is on VCCS as the winner, but it will be interesting to see who shows up to represent the different schools. JMU's showing may surprise a lot of people.

hmmm...VWCC or CCVT

I didn't really get into autocross until after my years at VT but that's where my heart lies....

I think last year I was recruited at the starting line for community colleges, not that I helped much.

I do. I'm also an alum x3.

I really don't like Verona, but I do like the notion of running for my school, so we'll see :)

I've never really been the fast guy for MM, that goes to Kyle Cookmeyer, David Lonquest, DJ Fitzpatrick and Peter Tyson.
Also I'll be running SSM with it's amazing pax score lol.

There is only one real guarantee here...the team that doesn't show up will lose.
(que Pacino voice) Anything can happen on any given Sunday.

I've gone from midpack to FTD (lol, and then back to midpack) in autocrossing. You just never know.
