Here it goes. I am in the process of selling my 99 Miata (1.8 L) bc I just purchased a WRX. Here is a list of good. Car has a header, new coil pack (they go bad and fry the cat and trip the CEL), new plugs and wires. The header dumps into a stock exhaust and into a dual tips (great sound). The car has a new driveshaft, fuel filter, and cross member braces. It also has adjustable shocks (not coilovers). Mechanically it is very sound. Now onto the bad, the top needs replaces badly. It is torn just along the seem of the rear window. The tan leather seats are cracking from the sun and age. The car has never been hit. This weekend I noticed the passanger side window would not roll down all the way (electric windows) so the regulator might be shot. I have not had a chance to look at it yet but will let you know as soon as I find out and would be willing to lower the price if it is bad. Asking $4000. The car is located in Weyers Cave, Va.

I think what we all want to know is if it has a torsion or not. Not in the market myself but good luck with the sale.

Do you have the VIN? With that, we can decode exactly what it has.

If it has the leather seat package, it likely has the torsen. '99's are also known for having some of the best Miata motors. Pretty good price too.
Todd- FYI!
From the Miata.net FAQ:I'm looking at buying an NB and it doesn't have or I don't have access to the Model #. How can I know if it has a LSD?
For 1999 (Torsen II):
If the car came with cruise control, power antenna, windblocker and power door locks and/or tan leather interior/top, it has the LSD.
It it is a 10th Anniversary Edition (10AE), it has a LSD.
If it is a Sports Package, it has a LSD (see How to ID a 1999 Sports Package below)

So here is the skinny on the limited slip. I had someone call Mazda with the Vin # and they, the person interested in the car, said according to Mazda it does have a limited slip. I have not called Mazda myself so I hesitate to claim it has the limited slip or not. The model number is NC24-NAA, which according the internet should confirm limited slip, not to mention it does have cruise, leather seats, power locks/windows and antenna. I know I have not swapped rearends and I don't think the previous owner did. Is there a way to physically check? I just hate false advertisement.

The typical way to test is to raise both the rear wheels off the ground and rotate one of them. If both wheels rotate in the same direction then the car has a limited slip. If one wheel rotates forward, and the other wheel rotates in reverse, then the diff is open (non-limited slip). I have heard that this test does not work with some modern LSD units.
