Hello everyone!
Just found specs and an article on the upcoming BRZ! Performance doesn't look spectacular, but it's only gonna weigh 2,600 lbs with 200hp!
Anyone wanna play guessing games on what class this car goes into for autocross? On paper, it looks to me like it might end up in CS, possibly even BS, after looking at specs on S2000's...

You could make an argument for CS or DS. I think SCCA will put it in DS. Success will depend on how much tire you can stuff underneath it.

Definitely not BS in my view. It has a McStrut front suspension. I think it'll make a good DS car. Not sure if it'll have the handling to compete with the MX-5 MS-R, Solstice, RX-8, etc in CS. Should be a good fit with the Cooper S, Genesis V-6, ITR, Audi TT, etc in DS.

Yeah, I never thought to consider the possible tire sizes... does seem like it would be good for DS though, when looking over those CS cars, I mainly had power/weight ratios in mind, a bit disappointing though with the Mcstrut suspension. Either way, I sure hope someone gets one of these (or the Scion version) and brings it autocrossing next season! : D

note that bmw's use mcpherson struts on almost all of their cars, including the z3/z4s and m versions of the z( pick a digit). and the non m's run b stock with approx 200 hp and much heavier.
Hey, what does this thing do *zap* oww,.... so that's what it does!

continuing this tangent, I'm not quite sure why the "ultimate driving machine" uses struts up front...fspmx6 wrote:note that bmw's use mcpherson struts on almost all of their cars, including the z3/z4s and m versions of the z( pick a digit). and the non m's run b stock with approx 200 hp and much heavier.
as for the BRZ, I agree with DS. if it proves to be an overdog, the SEB can always use the right to bump it to CS.

Re: Specs & speculation: 2013 Subaru BRZ
I just read the First Drive reviews of the BRZ by Motor Trend and Car & Driver. The more I read about this car the more I like it.
The front suspension will be a step-down from the RX-8 (McStruts) but the center-of-gravity is said to be just 18" off the ground which rivals the RX-8 and Porsche Cayman.
Maybe by this time next year when the evil dealer mark-ups are over I'll look into acquiring one...
P.S. I definitely wouldn't run one in stock though. I'd head straight to ST*
