Cannonball!!

Post by hklvette »

In case anyone didn't notice, the participants in the One Lap of America made their way through our area this afternoon. Saw a GT-R, top-end 911, Viper GTS (spoke with the owner at a gas station), C5 Z06, and a new Evo.

To all of them i say, Good luck!

Not really. Look at this: http://www.onelapofamerica.com/ Its a bit of a checkpoint race, where each checkpoint is a racetrack that each car drives on. You get points at each track based on your performance, and the person with the most points in each class wins their respective class at the end of the entire race.

It's a fun but intense event. I ran it in 2001 where we ran the following tracks - Watkins Glen (short), Michigan drag strip, Michigan Intl Speedway (road course), Hartland Park, Texas Morotsports Ranch, Road Atlanta, VIR (North & South), Watkins Glen (long). All those tracks and 4000 miles of driving in one week.

from the provided link:
"All participants must be 18 years of age or older and carry a valid driver's license for use on all highways in the continental United States."

and

"The entry fee of the 2011 Tire Rack One Lap of America will be $2900 U.S. funds only, non-refundable. The fee includes car and crew, specified social events, and eligibility for all prizes and awards."

...and

"All racetrack competitors must submit an outline of his or her driving background. Racing experience or special driving schools (NASA, Bob Bondurant, Skip Barber, Jim Russell, BMW CCA etc.) is required for all on-track competitors. "

Minimum age is 18, track experience is required. Entry fee is $2,900. Figure on $2k to 4k for other expenses - food, fuel, and motels unless you like sleeping in the car for a week.
