Camping at VIR?

Post by mrtwo »

Some friends and I are planning to go to the Grand Am weekend at VIR in April.

We'll probably have 3 tents. All adults (no children).

Any suggestions on the best places to camp at the track?

Do you reserve camp sites in advance or is it first come, first served (we probably will not get there until Saturday morning).

Do they allow camp fires?

Thanks,

Tim,

There is a charge for camping. $30 I think. I also think you can camp most anywhere after crossing the bridge.
The field on the right and left, and in the woods on the left. There are showers in a building down the hill right before the Ferrari horse, and showers at the Grid Barn at the top of the hill by the covered grid, and showers in the restroom next to the Pro Shop in the Pagoda.

The Grand Am weekend will be busy. In addition to the Pro races, Formula SAE will be there again, using the Patriot course for their driving tests of the College formula cars. I mention this, since the Patriot Barn (the barn to the left after the bridge) will be used, and therefore the woods that I mentioned above may get crowded. When you get there on Saturday, you should have a good idea of which areas to avoid.
